The middle class are called the normlings, those who don't process any supernatural mutations, they are thought of poorly in regards to the social hierarchy. 

Aisling in her great fortune was born a starling and has reached the peak age of 17. At 17, the government marries you off to someone of the same social class for reproducing purposes and then trains you for the job linking to the supernatural ability you possess. 

The only problem is, Aisling is in love with another.
