Have you ever wanted to host an award on Wattpad but didn't know where to begin? Have you ever wanted to remove your eyeballs with knitting needles after having hosted an award? Do you want to experience the first sentence without the second? Then this book is for you!

Follow along as I dish the tea behind the moderately successful Adept Pen awards, the lessons learned, the methods hammered into submission, and the tears shed and dried on the ambivalent sleeves of destiny. I don't know what that means either, but it sounded good.

Hopefully you will benefit from what we learned during this process, making your own efforts worthwhile to the glorious appreciation of your rabid fans.

Book of Contests (2024) by SeraDrake
182 parts Complete
To keep myself from losing track of: all the contests I've entered, all the contests I've volunteered myself as a judge (or let myself be voluntold into judging), all the books I've had to read as a contestant or as a judge, all the deadlines, and all the other important stuff, I've decided to create a book that registers all these things in a somewhat organized fashion. I can't remember who advised me to do that, but whoever you are, and there are probably several of you, thank you. I've been reading that it's extremely common for contests to be a bit sluggish with follow-up if a person wins a major prize and gets graphics and shout-outs, so I'll use this book to keep track of that, too. I had no idea so many people would be adding my personal convenience book to their own bookshelves, let alone voting for chapters - if my book of contests is useful to other people, that makes me happy. Very happy. However, I feel I must reiterate that although other people are welcome to browse my public contest logs and look for contests, look for information about details of contests (i.e. you want me to pour you some tea), etc, these contest logs are primarily for my own use. I enter so many contests that I can't keep track of them without a log. I forget important details, too, including things like "Note to self: You do not get along with this contest host, best not participate in their contests." This was never meant to be an "expose" book. I'm not exposing anybody. Contests are matters of public record, as are any comments made in the contest books. I'm just a ditz who needs a written log to keep track of everything. I would lose my head if it wasn't attached to my shoulders. 🛑 - CLOSED until 2021. ***If you're interested in my critiques, you might want to check out my weekly newsletter for opportunities to get a personalized critique. https://paula.substack.com/p/coming-soon Does your work stand out in an overly-crowded landscape? Does your story & writing shine as far as: ★ - Concept ★ - Voice ★ - Storytelling The Standouts is a fun, but hopefully helpful contest that can give you a sense of whether your story resonates with someone who's got some experience under her belt. Great! But who are you to judge? Fair question. This is not to humble-brag, but I've been critiquing and have worked with story development for quite some time, and I've picked up a lot along the way. ☙ - As an Ambassador, I work on content projects. ☙ - If you look at my profile, you'll see everything I've published so far has managed to standout in one way or another, whether by leading me to become a Wattpad Star; or by winning a Watty (twice!); or by being picked as a Top 10 in major Wattpad contests (twice!); or being featured. All I'm saying is I'm no slouch. I'm not brilliant either. But I've got some experience around what can catch an agent, editor, or judge's eye, and I'd like to share that with the community. ☙ - In another lifetime, I used to work for HBO in Development and at ICM (the talent agency) in their writers' department which means I understand how professionals quickly gauge whether or not they'll take a closer look at a work and/or make an offer. This kind of insight can be helpful if you're planning to submit your work or even just want to stand out more here on Wattpad. ☙ - I used to provide critiques for three writers, all of them traditionally published. They seemed to value my insight. Read the RULES, LOGISTICS & PRIZES chapter for guidelines. All entries get a brief assessment of their first chapter, with winners getting more extensive critiques. Sound interesting? Give it a go! 😊

He asked. I clapped my hands together and sighed. "To go home." His face instantly fell. He walked right into that one. "Well that sucks because you aren't going anywhere, kitten." I growled lowly at the nickname and crossed my arms. "Who says?" I argued. "I just did. Now stop acting like a brat and tell me what the hell you want to eat," he said frustrated. I rolled my eyes and turned around to exit the room. "Where the hell are you going?" He yelled at me. I stopped and turned around to look at him. "I don't want to have any food prepared by you. You're hands are probably just as dirty as your mouth. Watch your language," I stated simply and exited the kitchen. ________________________________________ © All Rights Reserved 2014
