B.E.A.S.T.: The Bureau of Examination of Arcane and Supernatural Trespassers. Elegant, right? AKA, the monster hunting/investigating branch of the military, operating very secretly, of course.
Elaine found out that she knew almost nothing about her best friend the day she watched her die. So what do you do when you witness that, and learn that Hell and demons exist (even if those aren't the technical terms)? You go into hardcore denial, or you join. Elaine joined.
Cassie is one of B.E.A.S.T.'s best Officers. It makes sense, she was raised by two of them, and she has a special deal with the King of all monsters himself (but that's not public knowledge). She'll be in this until she dies, and after that, too.
They decided it would be helpful to try to write a manual.
