Elizabeth Lee has never had many friends, and she's alright with that. She enjoys the silence and she is alright with her only friends being her family. But she never talked to the girl directly across her window. The girl she had only seen a few times since her family moved in years ago. She has no desire to get to know her, but the other girl seems to have other ideas about that.

Clementine Higgins never knew loneliness. Her family is large, her friends are always around. But recently she finds herself alone more and more often. Perhaps it was her friends spreading rumors about her or the rising tension in her family. So she finds comfort in the girl across from her, who she desperately wants to befriend.

"Aubrey?" Charlie spoke, right on cue. "I know you probably don't want to hear it, but I apologize for how I acted this weekend. I was just in a bad headspace." Aubrey didn't acknowledge her, on account of trying to maintain a healthy blood pressure. "I know I've been back and forth with you, and we were just starting to get along before I did that, I just... I don't have an excuse, I'm just sorry. I'll leave you alone, I just wanted you to know." Aubrey turned and looked at her. "I don't give two fucks about your sorry, it means nothing to me. So you really could've just saved your breath." Charlie stared, searching her eyes before nodding. Aubrey was explosive, impulsive, loopy, and everything Charlie needed, yet never knew. After years of refusing to open herself up to love, Aubrey squeezed through the cracks, changing her life in the best way possible. Aubrey and Charlie go from strangers to enemies to best friends to lovers to strangers and finally... back to lovers.
