This story revolves around Johannes Wenzel, a Protestant 17 year old from Sonneberg, Germany in 1941. An aspiring poet living with his family rurally, he is conscripted into the Wehrmacht and serves on the Eastern Front of Ww2. He and his new comrades must overcome their brutal hardships day and night, and fight for their families and their livelihood.
