John Laurens, a senior at King's High School, struggles to accept his new life. With a girlfriend he's forced to date, he has to accept all changes. After his break up with his ex-boyfriend, Francis Kinloch, Laurnes vows to himself to never fall in love again. He vows to himself to never be so idle, to never be so niave or foolish. But all that changes when he meets a fellow immigrant coming all the way from the Caribbean islands, a seventeen year old boy with dark red hair and strange deep blue eyes and an unusual sense of kindness that catches Laurens' heart instantly. When the boy, whose name he'll learn is that of Alexander Hamilton, helps him break up with his arranged girlfriend, Martha Manning, Laurens couldn't have thanked him enough. But when he learns his father will be visiting him for two weeks, expecting the blonde to be engaged with the woman he never loved, Laurens panics and frantically asks Hamilton to become his fake girlfriend due to his feminine qualities he possessed. Without thinking, Hamilton agrees. But little did the two teens know, they're lives will change within these two weeks. (A re-telling of Helpless, the first book of The Helpless Trilogy, told in John Laurens's perspective)

Seventeen-year-old Alexander Hamilton should feel lucky. He should feel lucky that he survived the hurricane and the illness he and his mother had when he was twelve. He should feel lucky that he has a family now, an adoptive one at that. He doesn't. His traumatic childhood still haunts him day and night and Hamilton swore to himself to never befriend or to come close to anyone, for fear he may lose them. But when Hamilton arrives at King's High, all of that changes. He meets the dashing, charming, handsome blue-eyed John Laurens and instantly befriends him. But after his recent break up with his girlfriend Martha Manning, Laurens learns his father will be visiting him and expects Laurens to be with Martha, possibly even engaged to her. So, panicked, Laurens asks Hamilton to be his fake girlfriend because Hamilton looked "feminine" enough. Hamilton agrees nonetheless but little did they know, will the two teens actually become helpless for each other. (First book of The Helpless Trilogy)
