These are adventures created with my son when he was about seven years old. Starting at the age of four, he demanded we invent a new story each night rather than read a book for an entire year. And so we did. It was so much fun, we just kept going on that way for a few more years, bridging his transition into big brotherhood, and feeling so much less the star than his beautiful baby sister. It was important to him, and important to me that at the end of the day, he would be reminded that he is still a vitally important character in my life and imagination, and that he is a fantastic hero, exactly as he is.
Our stories together ended about four years ago, when he was self assured of his status as a big kid, and granted that he didn't need us to put him to bed anymore. Now, I'm finally writing them down to share with friends in need of a good laugh, and a good bedtime story.
