Mai Penber, younger sister of former FBI agent Raye Penber, has since retired from the force herself. After the deaths of both her parents and now her brother, she has sworn to never return to the force. Until one terrifying night changed everything forever.

After a strange encounter with a man on the roof of her apartment complex, Mai found herself staring at her television screen with wide-eyed terror. A man who goes by the name of Sairentokira [S], who claims to be the new and improved version of the original Kira in Japan, has broadcasted himself on national television calling out the world famous detective L.

All it took was one phone call from her former boss, Tsenumori, and Mai was on the case. This was her chance to get even. This was her chance to avenge her brother's murder. After teaming up with L, Mai and the gang realize this case is much bigger than any previous cases they all have worked.

Will Mai survive this mission, or will her family's bad-luck rob her of her life?
