William Dagon, a combat medic in a world torn by war finds himself on his last mission. Accepting a mission on a day off, he leaves to save the lives of a division that had been pinned down by enemy forces. Effectively saving the lives of nine soldiers, he is then left mortally wounded on the fields of combat. On the verge of death, a voice whispers to him.
'Save us...'
At first, he thought he was imaging things, but again the voice came to him, the voice of a girl who sounded desperate for help. And then darkness surrounded him and his new life in a strange, dangerous and magical world starts with a whisper.
Awakening in the mysterious world of The Isles, a world that lives under two moons where crystals grow from the dirt as large as houses, he finds himself remembering only distant memories of the past life he had lived like they had happened ages ago. He remembered the sacrifice he made during times of war, and the oath he took to help others. Not remembering his family, or his first name, he remembers the nametag he always wore: Dagon.

Esme had one big fear in life: being captured as a thief by the city's guardsmen and being executed for her crimes, and that so heavily weighed on her mind that she increased her risks by being distracted in the middle of a heist. That's when she runs into Althalos Fourthborn: Inner Circle Guardsman, one of the many princes of the realm, an Aelif (Dark Elf, local dialect)...and her betrothed by treaty. (That was something her almost human mind could not handle.) So she calls off the heist, gets demoted into a far more risky job, learns the true bitter depth of what this treaty's bond is like, and lands safely by her prince's side....sort of. There were people who still wanted to end her life, even if she was in what most people would call a Happily Ever After. That and her prince had his own living fears that were gnawing at any chance they had. That and she might just lose her mind from everyday boredom. But the one she couldn't wrap her all-too human mind around was that she would one day grow wings and fly away from her almost Happily Ever After to live in a hive with ancestors more alien than a hottie with pointed ears and abandonment issues. ~~~~ Yes, there are adult themes in this book, and difficult subjects, but nothing is excessive, as this is probably my simplest story. So, trigger warnings: A history of assault. Occasional vulgar language. References to partial cannibaliam. Extremely mild, light, and rare sex scenes. She was sitting on the rocky floor now with her back against an uneven wall, and it was trying to pin her down and hold her still. She kept her eyes turned away and struggled helplessly, but it was no use. It was strong like a human man too, and she couldn't keep it off of her. The wings had moved until they curved around them both and shut out a lot of the light. Its face was so near hers that she could feel its breath brushing against her skin. "Please just look at me for a second. Just look. I'm not going to hurt you." One of the hands grabbed her chin and forced her head to turn, and then she was looking straight into a pair of dark brown eyes. It had a human face too. She had been expecting something monstrous or ghastly, and the surprise made her falter for a moment. He looked young, with a bad haircut and an earnest expression on his face.
