"What do you think, Hermione? Will you go back?" George asked. Hermione's eyes traced the emerald green ink and swirling script, and she felt something stirring in her chest. She looked up from her letter and caught George and Harry exchanging a heavy glance. In that moment, She lost all doubts for the choice she had to make. As anyone may have predicted, Hermione Granger was going back to Hogwarts. She locked eyes with Harry and immediately recognized the nostalgia that bubbled to the surface. Without him saying a word, she also knew beyond doubt that classes and studying and exams were things Harry could never return to. For the first time in seven years, their paths were truly about to part. *** Hermione paused, and her eyes rested on Malfoy's note from last night: Why do you clutch at your arm every time you see me? Words jumbled around in her mind until slowly, deliberately, she wrote: My scars haven't faded yet.

Breathing out, Hermione took his hand and said, "Valet in lucem." Draco wrinkled his nose, looking up at her confused. "Was that an insult?" Hermione rolled her eyes. "No Draco, it's an old saying in Latin." "Well I don't speak Latin 'Mione." She huffed. "I said, Light Prevails Malfoy, because it always does." Hermione thought he might try to argue with her again, make her red in the face with anger but Draco paused when he opened his mouth. She waited in anticipation. His features seemed to soften a little as he stared at the ground. When his eyes came back up to meet her, she thought she might get lost in his gaze. "Light prevails." Leaning in slowly, Draco kissed her on the lips and Hermionie pulled him in. -x- Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger are far from friends, they're barely even acquaintances and if the two of them had their way, they would not be spending their final year at Hogwarts as Head Boy and Head Girl together. But as fate would have it, or rather McGonagoll, they are the top picks to keep the students at Hogwarts in check and out of harms way. Though the two of them might have something to say about that. Regardless, both Draco and Hermione accept their positions and try to move on from their old rivalry, close old wounds, and try to form some sort of friendship. But sometimes the past can't stay buried and old grudges die hard and despite not having to defeat a Dark Lord, their seventh year at Hogwarts may prove to be the hardest one yet.
