"What do you think, Hermione? Will you go back?" George asked.

Hermione's eyes traced the emerald green ink and swirling script, and she felt something stirring in her chest. She looked up from her letter and caught George and Harry exchanging a heavy glance. In that moment, She lost all doubts for the choice she had to make. As anyone may have predicted, Hermione Granger was going back to Hogwarts. She locked eyes with Harry and immediately recognized the nostalgia that bubbled to the surface. Without him saying a word, she also knew beyond doubt that classes and studying and exams were things Harry could never return to. For the first time in seven years, their paths were truly about to part.

Hermione paused, and her eyes rested on Malfoy's note from last night:

Why do you clutch at your arm every time you see me?

Words jumbled around in her mind until slowly, deliberately, she wrote:

My scars haven't faded yet.

Hermione Jean Granger was abandoned before she even knew who she was. Left in a trash bin behind a forgotten café in Hogsmeade, wrapped in a scrap of cloth, she should have been another tragic story. But Albus Dumbledore found her. He took her in, perhaps believing he could save her. But Hermione wasn't one to be saved. By seven, the resentment in her heart had grown too strong, pushing her to reject him, and everything he stood for. She chose to be an orphan-an outsider-rather than accept his care. When her Hogwarts letter arrives at eleven, it feels like destiny knocking at her door. She knows who the headmaster is, yet she walks into the castle with her chin high, her heart cold. The Sorting Hat barely touches her head before wailing out "Slytherin!."-a choice so blatantly obvious to everyone but her. In Slytherin, Hermione surprisingly finds her place. She meets Draco Malfoy, heir and legacy to the most prestigious Wizarding bloodline. Together against all odds, they form a bond-sharp, quiet, and built on an unspoken understanding. Their friendship grows over the years, a constant amidst the shifting shadows around the shifting shadows around them. But Hermione's path was never designed to be simple. She is drawn into a hefty bargain with the Dark Lord, a quest that no one truly understands. Not even Draco. The weight of it presses on her as she follows orders whispered to her, the stakes unknown, the consequences inevitable. When the truth is revealed, they will all learn what she's been hiding-and what it will cost them all.

Breathing out, Hermione took his hand and said, "Valet in lucem." Draco wrinkled his nose, looking up at her confused. "Was that an insult?" Hermione rolled her eyes. "No Draco, it's an old saying in Latin." "Well I don't speak Latin 'Mione." She huffed. "I said, Light Prevails Malfoy, because it always does." Hermione thought he might try to argue with her again, make her red in the face with anger but Draco paused when he opened his mouth. She waited in anticipation. His features seemed to soften a little as he stared at the ground. When his eyes came back up to meet her, she thought she might get lost in his gaze. "Light prevails." Leaning in slowly, Draco kissed her on the lips and Hermionie pulled him in. -x- Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger are far from friends, they're barely even acquaintances and if the two of them had their way, they would not be spending their final year at Hogwarts as Head Boy and Head Girl together. But as fate would have it, or rather McGonagoll, they are the top picks to keep the students at Hogwarts in check and out of harms way. Though the two of them might have something to say about that. Regardless, both Draco and Hermione accept their positions and try to move on from their old rivalry, close old wounds, and try to form some sort of friendship. But sometimes the past can't stay buried and old grudges die hard and despite not having to defeat a Dark Lord, their seventh year at Hogwarts may prove to be the hardest one yet. I Never Had a Choice

48 parts Complete

Draco Malfoy is working to live in the world that has shunned him after the war, while finishing his schooling and trying to stay out of Azkaban. He needs to work hard, knock down walls, and let go of everything his father taught him in order to gain the respect and friendship of his peers, and the love of one Hermione Granger. "'Come Draco.' Those two words from my mother sealed my fate. I knew at that moment I had no choice. I could never let her down." *+*+*+ This is a story from Draco Malfoy's point of view. I appreciate criticism, just don't be too mean about it. *+*+*+ I do not own these characters, I do own the story lines. *Completed*
