Once upon a time there lived a young man named Toba. He lives simply and does not have a family, his daily activities are only fishing in the river for him to eat.
One day while fishing, Toba got a very large and beautiful fish, its scales were golden. Toba was very surprised to see the fish, he Finally brought the big fish home and decided to keep it. But toba was surprised again when the fish turned into a very beautiful woman.
Finally, Toba told the woman that he loved her and wanted to marry her. The woman agreed to marry Toba, on the condition that Toba had to promise not tell anyone that the woman was a fish. Toba agreed to the terms, And they finally got married.
Toba and his wife lived a simple and happy life. Their happiness was more complete after they ere blessed with a son named Samosir. To meet the needs of his family's life, Toba has to work in the fields which is a bit far from home.
One day Samosir was told by his mother to deliver food to his father in the fields. On the way to the fields, Samosir felt hungry and thirsty because the distance from his house to Ladak was quite far. Finally he decided to eat some of the food he brought for his father. But he was afraid of being scolded by his father.
And sure enough, when he arrived at the Toba field, he was very angry because he saw that his food had been eaten by Samosir. Toba's anger peaked until he shouted at Samosir and said that Samosir was a child of a fish. Hearing his father say this Samosir came home crying.
When he got home, he told his mother what happened. Samosir's mother was very angry and disappointed because Toba had broken his promise. Finally Samosir was told by his mother to go up the hill, and wait there.
Suddenly water overflowed from Toba's house and continued to flow up to the hill where Samosir stood, and formed a lake. Until now the lake is named Lake Toba amd the small island in the middle is named Samosir Island
