Faith In Fiction: The Enduring Gaze

Can humans contribute to the eternal conflict between Darkness and Light? In the world of this first-person short piece of fiction, certain humans are selected to participate in direct challenges in the eternal conflict. One individual details a trial she faced in proving her faith and strengthening the side of the Light.
Elements of this short story came from a dream I had. Some pieces have been changed, added or omitted to create cohesion and complete the story, but my inspiration came from my subconscious. I may expand upon this at some point; I think there's an opportunity for several short stories in a series.
