Lila and Drew Jameson come from an abusive home full of neglect and pain. They deal with so much misery on a daily basis that they lost track of it all. 
When they get sent across the country to their aunts while their parents resolve some issues, they are met with sweetness they had never had expected. They see that not everyone is out to hurt them. School seems like a Utopia compared to their last one. The people they meet come to be gentle and kind. Their aunt treats them with respect and warmth. 
Lila comes into contact with a girl who has her questioning her entire life. Angel Duenna is the archetype of beauty and it isn't just skin deep. Her kindness shows in everything she does. 
Will an encounter with this girl save Lila and her brother from more than their past, but from themselves as well? Will Lila learn what it means to love and be loved?  Will Drew learn how to meet things with a gentle touch? Or will everything just fall through their fingers and leave them on their own again?
