Wandering Woman, Forever Boy

Calvin Woods has everything: a job as a screenwriter at M-G-M, a movie star girlfriend and the respect of his peers. It's January 1939 and Cal and his writing partner, Melanie Graham, are nominated for an Academy Award for Original Story. Cal tells the tale of his last months with sexually-liberated, Texan, Mel Graham. Cal, the man looking for a committed forever with his movie star girlfriend, Nina Gold, cannot grasp Mel's inability to give her heart or lay down roots. Still, Cal is happy, or so he thinks. With friends like Clark Gable, Spencer Tracy, and Carole Lombard, and evenings at glamorous locales like The Cocoanut Grove and The Biltmore Bowl, how could he be missing out? However, when Cal's name appears in Hedda Hopper's gossip column, incurring the wrath of his boss, Louis B. Mayer, Cal finds his career and his romance with Nina in danger. It is Mel that steps in and rescues his reputation, at great cost to herself. Suddenly, everything Cal thinks he knows is turned upside down as he gains self-awareness, a dangerous characteristic in a town where everyone is constantly playing a part.
