Centuries worth of starvation.

When your blood does not flow, there is no satisfaction in the daily actions of the living. Only in the thought of removing the spark of life of those around you.

Seren has been dead for half a millennium. In his eternal cruelty, he has forced innumerable others to share his fate. Unlike other nightcrawlers, he cannot satiate himself off the blood of the living. His only relief comes from the momentary gratification of blood beneath his fingernails, the knowledge that if he cannot stop his own existence, then he should not have to be alone in this savage fate.

Cowardice is the least desirable way of life.

In the slums of a city that has long forgotten her existence, Sade does not continue to stay alive because she wants to; only her spite towards a world that she wants to prove wrong, and a devastating fear of the death she so yearns for allows her to continue her pitiful survival. Every day of her life is a painful reminder of the the contradicting impulse she feels of wanting to know the release of death while wishing for a life that would remind her of the warmth she once dreamed of.

In a crumbling city that casts the shadows within which creatures of night and hatred crawl, Seren exists as an unwanted god, father of the cruelty which runs like blood through veins down the streets of the city. After knowing only hunger for so long, he no longer knows how to become something, someone, else. Until he finds the woman desperate for death, but afraid to die, who wishes for something only he can grant her: a living death, an existence that can both satiate her desire and fuel her hollowness.

But this woman is the one person Seren could never kill.

For she is the only one who has brought back the desperate, achingly lustful hunger he has not felt in centuries.

In the walled city of Veylin, memories are currency. The wealthy hoard them, the poor trade them just to survive, and the government controls them all. A single stolen recollection can cost you your life. Cara Ray has spent years in the shadows, dealing in black-market memories, extracting and selling stolen moments to those desperate enough to pay. She despises the elite who never have to know what it's like to forget their own past just to scrape by. And no one infuriates her more than Caleb Morrow-the cold, calculating son of Veylin's Memory Commissioner, a man who's never had to lift a finger to survive. Caleb has never known hunger or the harsh realities of the streets. He's spent his life in the luxury of the city's upper echelons, shielded from the brutal truths of the world below. But when he learns that his mother's memories were erased by the government-and that she's still alive, somewhere in Veylin, living under control-his world is upended. To find her, Caleb needs help. The one person who could assist him is Cara. But she's no ally. She's everything he's been taught to despise. When Caleb tracks Cara down, forcing her into an uneasy alliance neither of them wants, their rivalry turns into something far more complicated. Both are caught in a game of survival-one trying to recover what was stolen, the other fighting to keep her own secrets buried. And as the stakes get higher, Cara begins to see Caleb as more than just a privileged enemy. But trust is a luxury neither can afford, and with each step toward the truth, their fragile truce begins to crack. In Veylin, memories are worth more than gold, and the line between enemy and ally is thin-especially when hearts are on the line.

He brushed his lips against my jaw, his dark hair falling over his brow. "Open your eyes," he commanded. "Look at me." I followed his orders and looked into the raven-black depths before me. I saw my entranced gaze reflected in his glaring one. "Tell me what you see." I kept on looking at him, searching for something, anything, that remained of the person he used to be. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. But his eyes were so dark, so empty . . . "Nothing. I see nothing," I whispered. He smirked, his gaze still on me. He pulled away, leaving me feeling cold. "Exactly. You see nothing - that's because there's nothing there." ** How much can a person change in just three years? Short and full of fiery spirit, Hanna Jordan is a gifted college student who is enrolled in one of the most prestigious culinary programs in the country. She's just returned from three years of study in France and is anxious to reconnect with her longtime friend, Rian Aronhalt. Can they both heal from the scars time left behind, and find love in the process?

Maeve's ability to touch others' souls can be heartbreaking and confusing, but when she connects with two murderers, it turns her world upside down. Are they still killers if they only kill monsters? Thrusting her into their violent world, Maeve struggles to hold on to her humanity, making choices she never believed she would have to make. Disturbed but drawn to each of them. Will's bestial nature calls to her one moment and rejects her the next. While a powerful attachment to Ander's gentle soul comforts her, but every time they connect, she feels his darkness just below the surface. Will's entire life has been a war against monsters, alongside his best-friend Ander. Honor bound by duty, he is brutal, relentless, and uncompromising in his mission to protect the masses. He didn't understand how much his world would change after saving Maeve, or how she would shatter his convictions. Ander may have magical talents but in his mind, nothing will redeem him from the abomination he is. Bound by more than shed blood, Will, his adopted brother, and only friend. Together they seek and destroy aberrations that poison the world. Until Maeve touched his hand, there was nothing else but the mission. With her, Ander could see a different side of himself, a different life. This is a character driven story written from the 3 main characters POV's. It's a mature adult dark romance & contains dubious triggering situations that some might find offensive. If you want an instant, fearless heroine, Maeve won't be it. Her story is discovering who she is & what power love can bring versus kicking monsters asses. Power & money aren't the only things that make the world turn & those that wield the greatest power control destiny. If you're looking for heroes, Will & Ander are NOT it. If you're drawn to tortured villainous souls, you'll enjoy their saga.

The ashes of Elarion still clung to my soul, a bitter reminder of the price we paid for freedom. Seren, my sun, my moon, my everything, stood beside me, her hand clasped in mine. We had won, but the victory tasted like ash in my mouth. The queen was gone, her tyranny extinguished, but the kingdom she built, the kingdom that had once held Seren captive, was no more. "We should start fresh," I told her, my voice rough with the weight of what we had done. "The Wildlands. A new kingdom, built on hope, not fear." Seren's eyes, always a window into her soul, were filled with a sorrow that mirrored my own. She knew the Wildlands were a dangerous place, a place where the fae lived in ancient forests. But she also knew that it was the only place where we could truly be free, where we could build a new life together, free from the shadows of the past. I would protect her. I would be her shield, her king, her lover. I would make sure that the Wildlands would become a haven for us both. But I knew, even as I made the promise, that I was not just protecting her from the dangers of the world. I was also protecting her from the loneliness that had always been my constant companion. I had been a king for far too long, a lonely king with no one to share his burden, no one to love. But Seren, with her bright laughter and her compassionate heart, had shown me what it meant to be truly alive. I would give her the world, even if it meant facing the shadows of my own past. ________ This is book 2 of Seren and not a stand-alone.
