Sagepaw finally becomes a medicine cat apprentice under the mentorship of Fuzzyshine. After his mother becomes Clan leader, his mentor is killed and he takes on an apprentice. His suspicions arise from odd activity from Lapwingtalon, SkyClan's deputy. When his brother is mysteriously killed after hunting with him, Sagepaw wonders if he can trust the deputy. Will he figure out the truth? Or will the Clan be doomed to destruction?
