In 2081, the government of Maxon issued the military to send out a team of special forces to carry out a secret mission where they must monitor and abduct a group of young children in the country's biggest city, Lament. They were used to test a new drug that enhances one's unique skill/talent this process was called "Splitting". They then would be trained to become military personnel with their enhanced talent to be used for military power.
On her 5th birthday, Snow was one of the children taken away from her family. Snow was the last child to be given the drug, but during her "Splitting" an accident happened and she was severely injured. After she recovered from the incident, they noticed that she had no greatly enhanced talent, it appeared as if she never had any talent or skill, to begin with. But they continued her training in hopes that her talent would show up later.
After 12 years of training, the government decided to trash the failed test subjects and sent them back out to the streets of Lament with no food, no money, and no place to go. They were left to live on the bright neon glowing streets and starve to death. It was during this time Snow discovered her talent, but that would not save her from her inevitable death. But just when it seemed like all hope was lost, She met a woman named Kai who was part of the resistance and she would go on to change Snow's life.
