The Ringmaster
The world has suffered yet another war. A war so terrible, it threw humankind into misery, and daily need of fighting to survive. I have killed dozens, maybe hundreds, to get where I am now, for that is the only life our ancestors prepared for me. I am Akira, the former ration trader, and provisioner. A dreamer, who always flies high among the stars of the night. A fighter, who stakes his life for mere food scraps.
The war had no winners, but after a time, a phoenix rose from ashes of irradiated soil and city ruins. A phoenix called The Grey Brotherhood. Since then, they have unofficially ruled the world, owned the trade, sent the provisions, and provided entertainment.
Today, I was randomly selected to "participate" in their entertainment program. And since declining the offer is a death wish, I can do no less than expect them to come for me. I will be ready... I will be ready to be taken hostage and trapped inside the paradise of blood, gore, and death.
For that is the entertainment they provide.

I ask him, and as if my voice had awoken him, his eyes grow aware and his eyes narrow on mine, the hand holding his gun steadying.
