Severus Snape devoted his life to saving others, even when it meant being hated and reviled by the very people he protected. He died believing he was despised, and branded as a traitor to Dumbledore. Snape now faces an impossible choice: to risk everything once more to save her or let her drift into the darkness that nearly consumed him. As shadows from his past threaten to repeat, Snape must confront his deepest fears. Can he save the woman he loves, or will history repeat itself in a devastating echo of lost love?

Summary: Severus Snape found some of his duties as a Death Eater particularly distasteful. Rounding up a band of rebel students trying to avoid the changing of the guard at Hogwarts wasn't nearly the worst thing he'd done, and it was possibly even the best.
