Lance had spent his whole life trying to live up to his position but he had never quite been enough. Not as a poor, orphaned child growing up on the streets of Altea's capital. Not as the half-breed, bastard young prince borne from one of his father's many affairs. Not as good as any of his siblings to be garnered proper recognition. Not as the second Blue Paladin. Not as Altea's youngest Cavalry Captain.
He'd finally begun to accept that as he grew closer to coming of age.
But none of that mattered when the war began and Lance, 10 000 years later, dropped out of a cryopod as one of the last remaining Alteans.

Our Strange Differences
Lance is fed up. In all his years, he has only known life inside the Castle of Lions. As he described it, a prison cell disguised as an extravagant home for the royal. He longs to get away, but his newly crowned sister, Allura, won't have it. So, against her younger brother's wishes, she hires a bodyguard to keep him 'safe' inside the castle. But, the new guard turns out to be... odd. Not quite Altean, not quite Galran. Compared to Lance and the rest of the empire, one could say Keith has many strange differences. *** "So..." Allura continued, clearing her throat. Her neck likely aced from looking up for so long. "I know you're not going to like this news, but... It's for the kingdom's best... It's for your best. If something ever happens to me-" "Yeah, yeah. I'll have to step up as king." Lance mumbled. He just wanted to be done with this conversation. Whatever bad news Allura was about to tell him, he didn't even care. His life sucked. How could she possibly make it suck any more? "I've hired a bodyguard." Lance nearly tipped off the wall. "Blaytz, my original paladin." Blue supplied in response to his thoughts shifting to the blue alien. Blaytz and the Altean seemed to be whispering to each other, giggling. It reminded Lance of whenever him and Pidge would gossip at the dinner (although he and Pidge rarely sat next eachother) or even those nerve wracking times when Pidge and Keith decide they want to prank someone. The Altean was average height, for a human at least, and had long blueish white hair gently cascading down his back, tied in a loose ponytail. His face was what startled Lance the most. It was shockingly similar to his own. Smooth tanned skin, he didn't seem to be wearing any make up, unlike Lance who usually wore it to cover his freckles. His eyes seemed to be glowing with excitement in a blue that matched the markings that lay under his eyes. "That is Amira, my second paladin." Lance finds out he's part-Altean along with his feelings for a certain red paladin. Goes through seasons 2-6 and completely redone post season 6. Lance is my favorite character so of course there's gonna be a ton of angst.Complete

"S-Stay, p-please," Keith mumbled, hiding his face in his pillow. Lance nodded climbing beside the small boy. Keith turned to face him, his face flushed as he looked at Lance, "T-Thanks." "For what?" Lance whispered, his breath close enough for Keith to touch. "B-Being by my side," Keith moved closer to Lance, closing the small distance between them, "I-I thought y-you'd all hate me." "Why would you think that?" "Ha," Keith let out a bitter laugh, "I'm half Galra. I share half of my DNA with a race who has killed countless civilizations, not to mention they kidnapped Shiro and Katie's family, and they-" "Exactly, "they". You didn't help them do any of that, right?" Lance touched Keith's forehead with his own, drinking in the feel of his soft skin. "N-No but-" "No "buts", you didn't choose to be born part Galra, and you have more than proved you're a paladin." "Allura and Coran hate me," Keith mumbled, trying to find some way to prove that they did indeed hate him. "No they don't, just give them some time to adjust," Keith turned around, pulling Lance's arm around him, "They have to get used to you. None of us hate you, not the smallest bit." Lance waited for Keith to argue but the boy had already fallen asleep. Lance hugged the boy tighter as he copied his steady breaths. "I could never hate you." ------------------------------------------------- Keith gets kidnapped during a simple mission of the paladins. He's tortured and abused for three days, leaving him a damaged mess. The paladins finally find him and bring him home, but Keith is acting strange, stranger than usual. I obviously don't own Voltron.
