Zalia has lived by the ocean her entire life, and has always heard the melodies of from the sea, late at night and occasionally during the day during some of the most mundane tasks.
She's always been tempted to venture out, but the songs are too far off and much too short to follow, until one appears to answer her call.
They say the music that plays off the waves at night are lost souls drowned at sea. Sailors whose ship sunk year's or centuries before but have yet to realise they've passed on.
Congrats, you have found my 2021 Nanowrima project, welcome to this unedited mess. I'm going to post each chapter as I finish it, in hopes of actually completing it this year, and I thought since I have to put up with writing it, I'll (hopefully) subject some unfortunate souls with reading it. I'll mostly be publishing late at night when my decision making is lest fuelled with anxiety. Thank you for your understanding. Wish me the best of luck. Cass has no memories of her parents, only impossible dreams of waves and orcas and, sometimes, her mother's voice. Jason became clearer: black hair dark above his yellow raincoat, arms crossed over his chest. "What the hell are you talking about?" "I asked how you like it, going for a swim in this water." She was open-mouthed with disbelief. It was a bad idea; a surge lifted her and slapped salt water into her mouth. Bile burned her throat as she coughed and all the while she was still flailing at the water, fighting the drag of shoes and clothes to keep afloat. She should kick them off-that's what you were supposed to do if you fell into the ocean with your clothes on-but she was only a dozen feet from the dock. Besides, it was her only coat. Jason watched her the way she'd watch a barracuda. "I know you're following me." "Following you?" What. The. Hell. She gave a mighty kick and tossed her coat onto the dock. Jason just stood there. A Mermaid for the Lonely
A mermaid named Sirène, whose job as a mermaid is to guide those who have died at sea to rest their souls and not be trapped. She typically finds sailors whose ships have sunk, and pirates and convoys alike. Her personality is one of seriousness, and she does not express herself by facial expressions very often. She does sung lovely tunes though, ones of the sea and winds, not ones meant to lure anyone to their doom. She seldom spends time with other merfolk and prefers to be on her own. She is however very curious of the various emotions humans possess and their intensity, since she does not feel these. One day, while Sirène was staying near Pointe de Pen Hir, a dangerous cliffside that plunges right into the ocean. Looking upwards by chance, she saw a human, a man, standing dangerously near the edge of the rocks. The wind blew harshly and she could only watch and wait as he toppled over the edge and feel towards the ocean. She saw no fight in him as he fell. ________________________________________________________________ This is a fantasy story with my mermaid OC that I started making back when I was in middle school. I've used her character to help me through tough times and I am revisiting her. I want to make sure I have a place to remember her story, and make it a happier one than before.Complete

For years, no, her whole life, Naida Muriel has been attracted to the sea. It's rhythmic tide, soothing waves, powerful potential, and the way it seemed to sing to her when she was alone. All of her friends claimed they heard no singing, whether they were alone or with her. Yet, before dawn, before the birds sang, before the sun rose. and when the fog still clung to the sand dunes, she would walk down to the sandy shore and listen to the music of the ocean, singing meaningful lyrics in a language unknown to her. But she didn't need to know the words to know they were for her, her heart told her so. ~~~ After falling into the ocean during a storm, Naida dies, but because of her love and devotion to the ocean, it gives her a second life. What happens when a young siren meets a human man? She certainly won't drown him, he's too special. It was, as the challenge goes, written in the span of one month. As such it has not been well revised and is less than ideal. It is likely not fleshed out properly, as when I wrote it I was merely sticking to a story and a timeline so that I could finish in time. Sirens in this world do not drown humans.
