An aspiring actress waiting for her big break, Kya Da Rosa would take just about any job that came her way. That is, until it came in the form of a cringey and stereotypical holiday romance. As one of the predictable and sappy movies she grew up relentlessly making fun of, she reluctantly takes the job, hoping it will give her a future platform for bigger movie deals. She just simply wants to do what she's told and leave with only minor embarrassment. Charley Warren had finally started climbing his way into the big leagues. Talk show appearances, big-budget projects, and Hollywood fame were at his fingertips. That was, until he screwed up and lost everything. Now, he has to live out his own personal walk of shame and play a role in the very kind of movie he swore he would never do. Hoping it will improve his reputation, he goes along with it, but he resolutely decides to not be happy about it. At first repelled by the same tropes that brought them together, annoyed Kya and irritable Charley slowly go from a reluctant and unlikely pairing to something, well, more. As their lives start to mimic the same stereotypes that they fervently protest against, feelings begin to change. Although both are unsure where they stand, one thing holds true: this Christmas will be full of classy clichés.

When a total stranger knows what eats you, maybe they are your one true love. Even if you don't know it yet. || On Friday the 13th, two twenty-something, Daya and Mike, end up in a mutually beneficial arrangement: she is his caregiver after he breaks his foot; he provides room&board to help her out with a teeny-tiny cash flow problem. Not a whiff of a romance, strictly business. And for a while, all is good... for about five minutes, that is. What can an overweight man, a video game obsessed librarian, know about her quitting a challenging sport of figure skating, Daya scoffs. He needs to get off her case and sort out his binge eating! What does a celery-chewing skating diva care about his failure as a PhD candidate, Mike wonders. She is just replacing her dreams with his non-existing problems instead of pursuing her one true passion! With the two already teetering on the brink of mutually assured destruction, oil splashes onto the flames when Daya resumes her never-ending quest for skating triumph at Canadian Nationals. (Well, that should make Mike happy, right? Right?) But isn't there *something* worth fighting for *together*? Like, you know, love? COMPLETED. First Published: August 19, 2019 Trigger warning: This story contains themes of eating disorders and body image insecurity (male).
