When Lyra went to the States, she kept in contact with her uncle, Remus Lupin, and his wife, Nymphadora Tonks. Lyra loved Lupin and Tonks more than anything, so it hurt for her to leave them behind, but she had to get away to stay alive and protect everyone she loved. She had lost almost everyone, and she refused to be the reason she lost anyone else. Moving to Forks, Washington was a huge change. She didn't know what to expect when she moved there, but she really didn't expect to find shapeshifters and vampires close to where she lived.
