Es ist ein Tag wie jeder in Hobbiton als Bella Baggins' Leben völlig auf den Kopf gestellt wird.
Von einer Sekunde auf die andere ist ihr ganzes Haus voller Zwerge, die fest davon überzeugt sind, dass sie die perfekte "Meisterdiebin" für ihre Mission sei; den Heimatsberg Erebor von dem hinterhältigen Drachen Smaug zurückzuerobern.
Obwohl Bella anfangs dagegen ist, siegt doch die Abenteuerlust in ihr, und sie begibt sich zusammen mit den Zwergen auf die gefährliche Reise durch halb Mittelerde.
Nur der Anführer der Zwerge Thorin Eichenschild, König unter dem Berge, scheint als einziger etwas gegen Bella als Meisterdiebin zu haben.
Hinzu kommt, dass eben dieser Zwerg wahnsinnig attraktiv ist, und Bellas Gefühle verrückt spielen lässt.
Werden sie es schaffen den Erebor zurückzugewinnen, und somit den Zwergen ihre Heimat und Gold zurückzugeben?
Und welches Geheimnis hütet Thorin, dass Bella als einzige erkennen zu scheint?
