1300 years ago, the demonic reign ended in the flames of war, the legendary Demon General, Xuan-Jun, felled by a lover's betrayal. The Demon King he served was sealed, flesh stripped from body, and soul subject to agony for eternity. Now, 1300 years later, he finds himself waking up in a world where the knowledge of demonic beings are commonplace. The Council of Sinners, an organization designed to hunt his kind, have purged the earth of much evil, allowing mortals to live once again at the crux of society.

Having become the young master of the Xu family, a good-for-nothing waste, Xuan-Jun, now 'Xu Keixuan', struggles to adapt to this new world. Especially since the previous owner of this body seems to have left him with a pile of trouble, primarily in the form of a man named An Luzhen.

Hard-headed, charming, and with a touch of madness in his bones, this civil officer with a dubious background embroils Xu Keixuan in a power struggle he thought he left behind a millennium ago. Neither of the two seem to be able to escape the tug-of-war of fate.
