A person's head appeared above the water in the middle of the ripples. Their hair had a majestic shine to it. Sure, it was too far to make out the details of their face, but they seemed to smile at the captain. He found himself leaning over the edge to see better. Time felt slowed. And, just as fast as it had happened, the person disappeared under the water and the bioluminosity seemed to fade."
