Goddess Devasena is the first wife of  Lord Subramanya and the daughter of Indra, the king of the Gods (Devas). She is the consort of Lord Subramanya (also known as Kartikeya) and the celestial marriage happened when Lord Subramanya (son of Lord Shiva) became the Commander-in-Chief of the Gods.  Sri Subrahmanya Swami destroyed, Tarakasura, Simhavaktra, Soorapadma, and liberated Devindra (Indra) who was imprisoned by these demons.

Devendra out of gratitude arranged his daughter Devasena's marriage to Subramanya. The celestial marriage ceremony of Sri Devasena Devi with Sri Subramanya Swami, in the presence of all the Gods and Goddesses, is explained in the Apta Purana, Skanda Mahapurana, Shankara Samhita, Shiva Rahasya Kanda, Deva Kaanda first and second chapters.
