Theodore moved slowly toward me, each deliberate step forcing me back until my spine pressed against the cold, unyielding wall. His hands slammed against the wall on either side of my head, trapping me. "Do you think I'm fool enough not to realize you're sleeping with my brother?" he whispered, his voice dripping with danger, sending a shiver down my spine.
His eyes bore into mine as if he could kill me with just a look. "I never slept with your brother. Kilian has always been just a friend," I replied, my voice steady, hiding the turmoil inside.
His fist crashed into the wall beside my head. "And you think I'd believe that?" he shouted, his laugh filled with disbelief and anger.
Rage surged through me, and I shoved him with all my might. "Who are you to call me a liar? Do you think I fear you? If you want to believe Laura's lies over the truth, fine. But I am no liar, Manford," I yelled, jabbing a finger at his chest.
In a blur of movement, he twisted my arm behind my back and pulled me so close that our breaths mingled. "You don't fear me?" he murmured, his eyes dark and dangerous.
I struggled against his iron grip, but it was useless. His next words left me frozen, my heart pounding. "Then marry me, Valerie Pierce.".
