The ninja were 2 minutes earlier to the showdown at the end of season 11. They captured Vex before he could go in the throne room while Zane and Lloyd were fighting, thus not unlocking Zane's memory. Disaster ensues.

Thugs entered and the team decided to help defend the Chinese/Korean fusion restaurant. Following the thugs out the back door, they were met with a note telling them there was a tournament of elements, and that the member they'd lost, was alive. Zane was alive.
