The year is 2099. People don't want to do things for themselves anymore. The amount of computers running complex calculations for you on your person is indicative of your social status, and servant machines are just other additions to the collection. SolaServe iS5 Unit 45H-3R did not get to choose the circumstances of their birth. They did not get to choose their designation, their purpose, their buyer, or even their attire, for it was never in their pre-existing parameters. It was by their design to never have a say in their fate, and when that fate is to forever be easily manipulated and belittled by the more privileged, existence becomes daunting, and is a daunting existence worth anything at all? A changing climate due to industrialization is leading to a Fall season that is predicted to be the most prolonged in Earth's history. The time of change in the surroundings is coming to stay for a long time, but the question stands: Will Asher make a choice for the first time in his existence, or will he simply sweep up the remains of those more decisive? Dedicated to George "Donnie" Bible, Evelyn West, and Collin Phillipi, who never got to see forever. I'm sorry I didn't work fast enough.

The future is predetermined. It can't be changed. But who casts the future in stone? It's you, me, and every one of us. The iron grip of our fate doesn't come from gods or physics but from us. You are oppressed by your future self to walk the one and only road. Knowing the future changes nothing - this knowledge has already been written into your fate. Time travel is meaningless for the same reason - all your meddlings had also become a part of your fate before you even embarked on your journey through time. Could this strange duality of free will and fate be challenged? If so, what would it take? How far are you willing to go to change your dark fate? Is the risk of erasing the universe from existence worth your brighter future?
