The sky couldn't be seen from the dining room window. All that could be seen was the millions of pearly white butterflies that flew past.

"Butterflies are good luck," my brother said.

And hours later, when all the pretty butterflies were gone, a calmness passed over us. In that moment we were both happy with who we were. And the next day he was gone.

Butterflies are good luck?

Madelyn Cott has trouble believing her brother (Asher) committed suicide. She has found some signs indicating that he was murdered, and is determined to prove this. She investigates a series of clues, with the help of her love interest (Caspian Gray). Her investigations show Madelyn that while she always thought her brother to be a Robin Hood (someone who looks after the interests of the poor and down-trodden), it seemed that he was actually a murderer. Discovering that she is living in a world of lies, Madelyn is distraught. She begins to uncover the truth about Asher's girlfriend (Janet Swift) and her role in Asher's death. Along with the secrets that gang leader (Victoria Herim) is hiding, Madelyn needs to find out what her brother's link to Newton Wes is and whether or not Newton is alive. He is the only link she has to her brothers death. Follow Madelyn Cott as she comes to terms with the fact that her beloved brother was not who she thought he was.

ONC Ambassador's Pick & Shortlister! Rumors. Infidelity. Lies. Secrets. MURDER. And all before lunch time. Who knew being a socialite in 1951 could be so thrilling? ~~~ On a lovely June afternoon, as the oh-so-chic members of the Gilded Grove Ladies' Book Club gather for their scheduled luncheon, they are shocked to receive the news that their vice president, Camilla Otis, is unable to attend. Gossip ensues. What catastrophe could possibly have befallen her to warrant a last minute cancellation? The answer comes by way of two clever, dashing police officers. It seems Camilla Otis has had quite a busy morning, and that the truth behind her absence is far more scandalous than the Book Club ladies could ever have imagined. As the police dig deeper into the events surrounding Mrs. Otis' shocking crime, buried secrets about the other Book Club members begin to surface. None of the women in question are the fine, upstanding ladies of society that the public believes them to be. Each has tarnish on her so-called "sterling reputation." And no one has more to hide than club president Marcella Montgomery. Written for ONC 2024, this is a tongue-in-cheek "whodunit" (in reverse) that will leave you wondering just what a scorned woman *wouldn't* do for sweet, sweet revenge. ⚠️ Warning: many very nonchalant references to murder and death. Very ignorant (era-realistic), inaccurate comments about nationalities/cultures outside the US.

Taught they are unable to leave home due to their long hair, Lexi, Lulu, and Fia secretly envy their volatile father and narcissistic mother whose short locks allow them to come and go whenever they wish. Raised believing their grandparents live in the TV set, the young women's knowledge about the outside world is skewed. On the eve of Fia's eighteenth birthday, life as they know it is altered when the girls find a young man unconscious in their yard. Believing he is an angel, they hide him in the guest house. Soon Fia's feelings for the man bloom and she finds herself sneaking to the guest house to be with him. When the lies the sisters have been told begin to unravel, Fia decides she will do whatever it takes to escape. The only thing holding her back is her long dark hair.
