Cacoëthes is an insatiable desire or a strong urge to do something inadvisable.

Caleb believes the protagonists in the novels, especially the female ones are highly irrational, especially those protagonists of obsession novels, his favorite type of books. He feels he could definitely do better than they would, and soon has a chance to prove it, when it's as though he has suddenly become one of those obsession novel protagonists.

Will this be just like any other obsession stories he's read or will it completely deviate from the beginning.

Accepting the roles and lines of a protagonist of an obsession novel(not literally) in a real life situation or changing the script enough to even shock the obsessor.
