When Kayla goes to school she sees her mother for the last time.  And after being saved from some men in black by a boy named Tyler, she is on a mission to know what her purpose is and what it has to do with the tattoo on her shoulder. With the help of her friends will she be able to survive the dangers that lay ahead unscathed?  

Tyler lost his parents at a very young age and has been put through hell. After meeting a distressed Kayla and a almost unconscious boy with no memory of his name now called John, he follows them through a journey, and only because, there is a connection between the pieces of the yin-yang symbol that Scott, Kayla, Roadkill, and himself have mysteriously tattooed on their shoulders. There's totally no other reason, right?

All he remembers is a promise to a friend and his address, but after meeting the three extraordinary people that now stand with him he considers what he has to go home too. Why would his family, if he even has any, throw him out? What had he done to deserve to being stabbed with a needle and thrown to the side of the road? Searching for answers gets more difficult as more questions surface, and will he be able to count on his new found friends to help him regain his past memories?

Scott loves his parents and after packing for a family vacation one of the engines on the plane taking them to Hawaii explodes and he finds himself plunging to his death. Landing in a river and being saved by three strangers who all have a birthmark like his and he begins to wonder how they found him and what they are doing. Of course, being the youngest doesn't help, but as tensions rise Scott believes he can lighten the mood between the three other stubborn teens. How? Okay, so here's how it all began. Basically, teenagers have been vanishing across the country and no one has the foggiest idea what's going on (myself included). Some could be a star, a flower, a yinyang, a fish, or even waves. There are so many people that the symbols are almost limitless. The tattoos don't care about gender or number. There could be gay matches, and there could even be polyamorous matches. The tattoos will tingle when you are near to your sm. And they will glow if you have found only one of your sm's if your match was poly. The trick is, you don't get the tattoo until you are 16. And even if you are near your match, as long as one of you are not of age, your tattoo will not tingle. Also, they are normal tattoos (except you don't get it or choose it, it just appears) so you can get rid of it. But if you do, your sm won't die but they will get very sick. The main characters of this story, Violet West (18) and Harper Black (20), both have a flame tattoo on their cheek. They live in the same state but for 4 years Harper paniced because she couldn't find her match. She wasn't sure if it was because her sm wasn't of age yet or if her sm lived far away. For 2 years Violet also paniced but she knew that some people don't find their sm for 5-10 years after they come of age, so she wasn't as scared as Harper.
