Mallory has lived on the island of Boule de Glace for her entire life. But there is something strange about Cassis. It's surrounded by sea walls, meaning that there was no access to the sea, except for the mouths of rivers, where there are gates with multiple locks. This was so the rivers wouldn't be dammed up. In Boule de Glace, the sea was forbidden.
One day, Mallory and her friend Delphi (short for Delphinia) decide to pick the locks. Delphi's friend had run away and she was going to look for him. But unfortunately, they hear the voice of a boy singing, calling them into the blue, promising for them to return to the upper world afterwards. Delphi seems hypnotized by the song, and eventually, the music lures her underwater, leaving Mallory with no choice but to follow her. Imagine her surprise when she realises that she can breathe underneath the surface of the ocean. Suddenly, they find themselves in a room, a bedroom, as Delphi seems to go crazy, talking nonsense and acting freaky. Then Mallory sees the singer: a twenty-seven-year-old man. With one watchful glance, he turns Delphi into a white coral statue. Mallory tries to escape but finds out that she is in a castle that is surrounded by what she assumed was a cage of lightning.
Trapped in the underwater castle, she realises that the twenty-seven-year-old man is not a man, but a cursed seventeen-year-old boy. With time, she grows to know him and eventually breaks the curse.
