Maxine has stayed in California for as long as she could remember. But with her fathers death it made things harder on them. Susan Mayfield, (her mother), had no choice but to move out, and they moved to Hawkins Indiana and right back out into Cali. Now you might be asking why they moved out, but that is a story for you to find out for yourself. Now Eleven is also in California. Pretending El and Max never actually met each other as well as the party never meeting her. They therefore do not know she exists.
