Isaac Brooks is a viral YouTuber with an affinity for mischief and mayhem. Chase Cooper is a star athlete and overachiever who seems to captivate the entire small town of Pleasantview, Florida - with the exception of Isaac. Bitter rivals since they became next-door neighbors last fall, the pair's worst nightmare comes true when they find themselves crammed together in a car for a 25 hour Spring Break cross-country road trip from hell with fellow high school seniors Connor, Isaac's naive-yet-lovable best friend, and Skye, Chase's no-nonsense twin sister. Facing numerous roadblocks including car trouble, food poisoning, and nearly being arrested, it doesn't take long for the group to reach their breaking point. Relationships are put to the test, buried wounds come to light, and shocking revelations begin to unmask everyone's true colors. Through it all, an unexpected bond develops, threatening to shake up the status quo and completely alter the course of their lives - for better or for worse. A story about friendship, love, loss and hope. 🚧 Road to Rockdale is currently in active development with 31 published chapters as of late June 2026. Feel free to add to your reading list and/or follow my profile for updates :) ⚠️ CONTENT ADVISORY: This story is PG-13 and contains frequent profanity, light alcohol/weed/vape use, sexual themes, mild violence and crude humor. All main characters are 18+. ⚠️ TW: While this story features many lighthearted scenes and situations, it does occasionally get dark. Mental health struggles are depicted, including survivor's guilt, PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Sibling/parent loss is also discussed, and I aim to approach these topics with care. Other potential triggers include blackmail, drowning, homophobia, and a brief kidnapping scene. Please see the Intro chapter for some additional info I can't fit here. Enjoy the story and thanks for reading! :)

For 17-year-old high school senior Evan Brooks, life could be better. He's a social outcast at school, stuck in a rural Alabama small town he never wanted to move to, and he's got a secret he's desperately trying to keep: he's gay. When he embarks on a weekend vacation to the Florida panhandle with his hypermasculine brother, homophobic stepdad, and aloof mother, none of them can anticipate how much a simple 3-day trip will change their lives forever... **2025 Update: Hi! This was my very first attempt at crafting an entire story from scratch all the way back in 2020, and I'd like to think my writing has since improved. I've started working on a big rewrite project, so stay tuned for a newly enhanced story! Please visit the last chapter (2025 Rewrite Info/Updates) for more details. In the meantime, the original story will remain here in full - just know that I know some parts of it are cringe lol. I hope you still enjoy it though! :) Some details have changed between this story and Road to Rockdale in anticipation of the rewrite, so please excuse some inconsistencies if you're coming from that story. I promise everything will line up eventually! CONTENT WARNING/TRIGGERS: Please note that this story contains very strong language at times and some mature themes. Some characters face emotional abuse. There is also a small amount of physical abuse, but it is mostly implied apart from one scene which is not extremely graphic. Some characters are homophobic, and a slur is used a handful of times.
