CONTENT WARNING: MENTIONS OF/REFERENCES TO HATE CRIMES, TRANSPHOBIA, HOMOPHOBIA, DEATH, LOSS, AND SU*C*DE. PLEASE ONLY READ IF YOU FEEL MENTALLY/EMOTIONALLY ABLE TO DEAL WITH THESE TOPICS. TDOR is Transgender Day of Remembrance, 20th November every year. It allows us to pay our respects to all our trans brothers, sisters and siblings that we have lost in the past year, whether that be to a hate crime or by their own hand. Every year the list of names is far too long. Every year, there are far too many kids on the list. This year I decided to start a small selection of poetry for TDOR. The day hits me really hard every year, and poetry has helped me maintain my mental wellbing with other things, so I thought it might help me with this. I'm sharing it here to raise awareness of the day and the struggles of the trans community, especially at this time of year. A word of warning, most of these poems will address death, loss, hate crimes, transphobia, homophobia and/or su*c*de. They are heavy poems. Please only read if you feel you're able to.

Writing is a terrifying act of creation that requires us to push past the fear of being known and bare our souls to others. It gives us a glimpse into our multifaceted lives, both as writers who share their stories and as readers who bring their own unique experiences to what they read. Writing serves as a beautiful connection to each other and our world. This collection of poetry and prose is intended for those of us who feel we have lost our connections and sometimes feel a little less than human because of it.
