This is a story about a soldier in the 95th rifles serving in the British Army under Sir Arthur Wellesley the 1st Duke of Wellington. Lawrence Sundermann has a secret family history that his older brother Ronnie Watson who is also serving in the army as a Captain in the cavalry knows about and him and his friends despise Lawrence for.
