Sato had always known that life wasn't like a manga. No one had a redemption arc that actually changed them. Foreshadowing wasn't a given, but instead you had to force yourself to piece it together in the end. And the biggest one; happy endings weren't real. Nothing ever ended up the way you wanted it to. Even though he knew all of that, it didn't stop him from desperately wishing it was.
Or, Sato Kai is a manager for Karasuno boys' VBC and no one can get a read on him, even though he can read all of them.
