After losing his parents in a bombing, EJ went to live with his aunt, uncle, and cousins, but he feels like he stands out of the crowd and isn't right or normal, for more than one reason. Because of his parents constantly arguing, his abusive mother, and her toxic boyfriend, Ricky is a troubled kid, always getting into fights, stirring up trouble, and never talking to anyone about his problems. He's accepted his brutal situation, but a part of him still wants to escape from his abuse and begin again. When they get caught in an explosion and a freak accident at a science lab during a field trip, they all gain unique and special abilities and are introduced to a whole new world, a world of superheroes.
