"Mak ambik beg buruk Mak ni, lepas ni tak payah mengada nak tinggal serumah dengan Wan." Sikit tiada rasa simpati, Zakwan menendang beg lusuh ke arah Puan Zainab.
Puan Zainab mengangkat muka, redup riak wajah memandang Zakwan. Hujung lengan baju kurungnya disapu saat titisan air mata mula jatuh sedikit.
Ingat bahawa anak derhaka, datanglah saat sang Ibu memanggil namamu. Mungkin tiada untuk hari esok.
Dalam kesamaran cahaya lampu jalan, Zakwan memerhati sosok tubuh itu. Dia memaling. Mak? Mak! Zakwan merenyeh matanya. Dia mengagahkan dirinya untuk berdiri. "Aduh!!! Arhhh! Sakit!" Zakwan mengerang dalam kesakitan.
"Nak... jangan bergerak sangat. Mak cik balut dengan kain ni dulu ya, sementara tunggu ambulans datang. Tak nak bagi pendarahan. Tahan sikit ya..."
Mak? I...ni Mak Wan ke? Mak kenapa Mak bahasakan diri Mak Mak cik? Ini Wan Mak.. anak Mak... Zakwan... Mak... Suara hati Zakwan meraung hiba. Sebaik sahaja Puan Zainab bingkas bangun, Zakwan sudah terjerit-jerit.
Dia cuba mencapai kaki ibunya tapi tidak sempat.
Sehabis tenaga dia mengheret badannya. Kaki sebelah kirinya yang tercedera akibat ditimpa pokok besar makin parah. Darah mencurah-curah keluar. Balutan kain batik milik Puan Zainab dibuka perlahan-lahan. Dikucup kain itu berkali-kali. Sikitpun dia tidak melepaskan.
