A lot of people are unpopular, but that's not Spence's problem. Spence is invisible. People simply cannot see him. No one even notices him enough to make fun of him. The only people who seem to be able to see Spence are his parents, his shrink and, oh yeah, the ghost of Kurt Cobain.

Tally Fisk is the girl next door. Well, technically, she's the girl across the street. And Spence has been trying to get her to notice him for years. In fact, if he were granted two wishes he would wish for 1) Tally to notice him and 2) Kurt Cobain to stop haunting him.
