In the small town of Woodhurst, tragedies are a rare occurrence. After all it was named one of the safest places in Oregon, and has proven to have less crime than it's sister town Sheeper's Falls. However that's started to change as students from Woodhurst High suddenly begin to vanish. One girl is dragged into the fray when one of the people closest to her vanishes next, and this one girl is the only one that can stop it. Her name was Janelle Richardson, but if you called her that she'd tell you kindly to call her Jane.

Desperate and grief-stricken, Nova flees the city with her only friend, Quin, seeking solace and escape from their harrowing past. Their journey leads them to an eerie, seemingly abandoned town called WhiteFish, where they hope to find refuge. Upon arrival, they are greeted by the town's enigmatic residents-Jesse, a charming yet aloof man; Savanna, a serene girl with an unsettling edge; and Angel, a mysterious individual who is said to have founded WhiteFish. The strangers offer hospitality, and Nova and Quin are soon drawn into the town's unsettling rhythm. Despite their initial discomfort, Nova finds herself drawn to Jesse, and a night of intimacy provides a fleeting sense of normalcy amid the chaos. However, the next morning, Quin is nowhere to be found. Nova's mounting anxiety is met with vague reassurances from Jesse, Savanna, and Angel. As the days pass, Nova grows increasingly suspicious of the town's residents and the unsettling atmosphere that pervades WhiteFish. Struggling to survive and outwit her captors, Nova navigates a labyrinth of deception and danger. With her wits and determination as her only allies, she uncovers the horrific truth about WhiteFish and fights for a way out, hoping to overcome her past and secure a future away from the shadow of death that haunts her every step.

Hope Flynn used to love water. She never realized the power of water, or the strength of it until the accident. Now Hope knows just how dangerous water can be. Water is the reason her sister is dead, and the reason she almost died. Hope can't remember what happened the night of the tragedy, but everyone assures her she couldn't have done anything to save her sister. Juliet Price has attended Redwood High since the beginning of sophomore year, but she's never spoken to Hope, Juliet doesn't fit in with her classmates as she wasn't born rich and she didn't grow up getting everything she wanted. The only reason Juliet is at the exclusive private school is because she's living with her wealthy aunt and uncle. Juliet knows what happened to Eleanor Flynn, most of the world does. The Flynn family are very wealthy and very famous. Even though Juliet and Hope have never spoken, Juliet can tell that Hope is acting weird and she doesn't think it's entirely because Eleanor is dead. When Juliet and Hope are brought together through a class project, Juliet starts to realize that Hope won't be able to start moving on unless she finds out what happened the night her sister died, and why she can't remember it. When the two start investigating, they realize that the truth is pointing to something dark. Almost everyone attending Redwood has secrets, and they'll do what it takes to keep them private. When the truth starts to come out, Hope is left to wonder if she remembers the dreadful night and finds out she had something to do with it, will she ever forgive herself?
