Jess Montgomery is a 26 year old female. Most of her time is divided between raising her 3 year old niece, and her job as a detective at the Detroit Police Department. Much to her mother's disapproval, Jess is adamant that she doesn't need a relationship.

Connor Anderson is a deviant: an android who has "broken free" from their programmed purpose/behavior. However, his deviancy comes with a price. His past as a machine haunts him every single day. He has a huge crush on Jess, but he's terrified of ruining their friendship if she doesn't feel the same way.

Lastly, we have RK900, the latest model of the RK series. Despite his best efforts, he can't seem to get his partner to bond with him. Cyberlife expects him to be their puppet. To follow every order without a second thought. As much as he wants to deviate, the idea scares him. He knows Cyberlife won't go down without a fight. So, he's forced to live half a life.
