Evarínya and Eragon are twins and have lived with Garrow for as long as they can remember.
One day when they are hunting in the Spine, a flash of bright light comes and two mysterious stones appear. They return home with the stones and for a while all is normal.
The traders come and one of them, Merlock reveals that the 'stones' may not be what they seem.
Before long the stones hatch into dragons, a bluey-purple for Eragon and a multicoloured for Evarínya.
Together the twins, their dragons and the mysterious storyteller track the Ra'zac, discovering many things about the world around them.
