"Going quantum in three... two... one."
The machines whirled and began to buzz with the hum of electricity, energy, and power. In a split second, he disappeared from their gaze. When he was gone, the air filled with tension as they waited for what was coming next.
After another second, he started up the machines again so they hummed their tune to signal how hard it was working while he narrated, "And returning in five... four... three... two... one."
Click.
He pressed the button to bring him back but the air was silent and nothing stirred around the machine. As they stared at the machine in anticipation, everyone shifted uncomfortably in their shoes as they waited. The longer it went without any movement, the more nervous they became that something was wrong. So the scientist turned to his computers to see if there was an issue with his machine. In a sort of panic, he continued to flip the switches to see if he missed a step or if he could redo the process.
"Where is he?" the worried friend chimed in, turning his head to look at the intelligent beast behind the computers.
"I don't know, it's taking longer than it should," the scientist stated, obviously nervous that something went wrong and the hero was stuck somewhere.
"Get him back."
"I'm trying."
"Get him the hell back."
Finally, the machines whirled, spun, and began to glow. This got everyone's attention except for the long-haired super-soldier. He already knew what was going to happen the moment he said goodbye to his best friend. His back was turned away from the machine until the machine's noises quieted and a light appeared and disappeared - leaving a figure behind.
"Who the hell are you?" Falcon's tone was harsh and quick to the stranger.
The super-soldier paused at the words and turned his head back to the machine to see someone else at its base. When their eyes connected, they locked on to each other's gaze and stared in disbelief.
"Hi, Bucky."

He frowns and almost immediately says "of course not" still very quietly. You give him a reassuring smile and say "Then I'm not worried." he finally looks up at you and gives you a small smile. - This was my first story so I'm sorry if the writing is not too good, I got better I promise. A girl named Diane had been really good friends with Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers. They had met when they were little and everyone would always call them the perfect trio. They'd go everywhere and do everything together. Diane had developed a crush for Bucky when they had gotten older just before Steve and Bucky went to war. She was left all alone in town, especially alone when she heard about Bucky going missing and steve supposedly dying. She missed them too much just to stay in the 40s away from her guys. "I'm guessing you're here to try and recruit me? Again?" I ask him patiently. I believe this is the fifth-time Nick Fury has come calling. Each and every time I have turned him down, but eventually he comes back and proposes the same thing. "No, I'm here to see if you'd like some girl scout cookies. The Samoa's are selling really well this year." Nick sasses while giving me his signature glare. I smirk. He's a sarcastic jerk, but he is funny. "Oh, well in that case..." I start and trail off, knowing it'll make him even more frustrated. He huffs and my smirk grows. "Why do you want me so bad?" I ask, honestly wanting to know. I watch Nick as he sighs deeply and clasps his hands in front of him. "Your skill set is equal to the best that we have. You would be an invaluable part of the team." He explains, but he knows that isn't what I mean. We stare at each other for a moment before he sighs again. "Your history only makes you more of an impressive subject." He continues and I groan. "The point is that you would help put an end to what happened to you, on a global scale." He says. "Think about it, Shifter." Nick drops a folder on the concrete and starts to walk back to the exit of the roof. I flip through the folder lazily, barely skimming the papers, but I know all of the names already. Once I've gone through most of it I stop and toss it in the dust behind me. Reading it was useless. I wasn't made to be any sort of hero. I DO NOT OWN THE AVENGERS.
