as a heads up, this is a longer read - this story is intended to  be a slooow burn. lots of exposition, build-up, and a lot of care taken to be as in-character as possible. 

to clarify, this is a gender neutral protagonist - which is to say that any gendered (or non-binary) person can fit into the context of the story. if at some point, specifics about the reader character's physical or sexual attributes are necessary, i'll do my best to write alternate versions of the part.
