After Bannon's vote, he said the charges were politically motivated and that he would fight them. But in fact, the House of Representatives committee investigating the Capitol Hill riots earlier this year subpoenaed Bannon to testify and turn over documents. He did not cooperate, and the Justice Department last week formally charged him with one count of contempt of Congress and another count of refusing to turn over documents. The committee concluded that Bannon had made statements that suggested he might have known that "extreme events" would occur on the day of the riots.
