Inspired and loosely based off "Bully's Hero" by "The Comrade" on Internet Archive. Doesn't follow the same plot though. Disclaimer: I do not (unfortunately) own How to train your dragon. It is the property of Dreamworks Animations. I don't know anything about WW2, but I know Hiccup wouldn't have been able to enlist. Please excuse my lack of knowledge. I was too lazy to research.

He thought his monstrous nightmare match would be the perfect setting for such a feat. When things go sideways, when Toothless saves Hiccup, he has a choice, stay and try one last shot of convincing Berk, or flee with his best friend. He chooses the best option, he flees. Now, he is branded as a trator, a renegade. Stoick practically disowns him and he is never heard from again. five years later, Berk hears mighty tales of a grand hero who rides a night fury. Many call him 'Night Rider', 'Dragon Tamer', and 'Mysterious Rider'. Many doubted that this hero could be their traitorous ex heir to the Berkian leadership. After all, he was described as having a prosthetic leg, very tall, confident, and extremely buffed, while Hiccup was the opposite of all these descriptions.
