"Finding yourself is hard. Your job is to make that process just a bit easier for them." All Lynn Yun cared about was getting into a good college. After her sister's acceptance to Princeton, Lynn had big shoes to fill. And she is willing to do anything to fill them. That is why when a guidance councillor comes in during homeroom and offers the opportunity to anyone who would like it for free community service hours, she gladly accepts. Her task: sit and have lunch with the new exchange students to try to get them comfortable with their new school. And that's how she meets Zayn Malik, a quiet, thin, and rather rugged looking lad from some place she's never heard of. He doesn't say much, but she notices he loves to draw. Will Lynn be able to break Zayn out of his self-conscious shell? Or will she just ignite anger that was not supposed to come up?

Lia Smith has always known what she wants-to become a nurse and make a difference in the world. At seventeen, she's focused, determined, and not easily distracted. That is, until she's assigned a new seat in history class... right next to Zayn Carter. Zayn is cold, distant, and has a reputation for pushing people away. He's the kind of guy who doesn't care what anyone thinks, and he makes it painfully clear that he doesn't want a partner-especially not Lia. But there's something about him that reminds her of a certain brooding, grumpy character from one of her favorite books. The kind that hides their pain behind sharp words and an even sharper attitude. Lia isn't looking for trouble, and Zayn wants nothing to do with her. But when circumstances keep throwing them together, she starts to see cracks in his armor. And against all logic, she finds herself wanting to know more. Zayn Carter is the one thing Lia never planned for. And he just might be the one thing she can't ignore.
